Lime fertilisers were among the first fertlisers to be used by man, and their beneficial effect was extolled by Pliny,
the Roman historian, in the first century A.D. Today, more than 4.5 million tonnes of agricultural lime is used
in Europe each year alone. 

Large amounts of calcium carbonate are being used to help protect the environment and this is increasing year on year.
It is used iIn the liming of forests and lakes, to counter the effects of acid rain, 
as well as in the treatment of flue gases and drinking water. 

As a natural product itself, calcium carbonate is well suited to environmental applications
