Calcium carbonate fulfils a variety of functions in adhesives and sealants. 

Calcium carbonates 

- ensure optimum adhesion within joints 
because the packing of the total particle size distribution can be optimised from the large number of available products 

- have a low binder requirement, 
which increases the adhesive strength and shortens the drying time 

- allow high filler contents, 
for economical formulation 

- enhance rheological properties, 
by the proper selection of fine fillers with specific surface properties 

- increase water-resistance, 
by selective surface coating of the filler particles 

- have a very high degree of whiteness, 
and thereby facilitate the formulation of very bright, white sealants 

- have a mid-range specific weight 
It is also hardly possible to imagine the wide range of modern plasters and surface finishes without calcium carbonate
products derived from marble, because 

calcium carbonates 

- are colour-bearing,
enabling a bright final product when using white marble granules 

- control the thickness of coatings and thereby their 
consumption,due to a exact setting of the granules top cut 

- are structure-forming, 
since it is the choice of the granular composition which determines the visible structure of a plaster 

- optimise the packing density of thick coating systems,
the correct blend of granular and filler fractions helps prevent the formation of pinholes and cracks 

- and calcium carbonates are easy to use, weather
resistant and can be used in all plaster systems.
